When: 16:00-19:00 approx
Where: Burleigh Point, Lifeguard Tower 18

It’s nearly time for the SEAQUINOX!!

Please join us on September 22 for a low-key Seaweed Society gathering at beautiful Burleigh Beach! We’ll tilt towards the sun/set together, and celebrate the abundance of seaweed in our warm(ish!) Spring waters.

The Equinox, of course, marks the sun’s movement across the celestial Equator, when night and day are equal length.

Half light, half dark, the equinox is a time to recalibrate to our Earth, reconnecting, revering – and remembering that we need the darkness to make the colours brighter! Let’s gently celebrate surviving the crazy plot twists of the first three quarters of 2020 together!

As people of the sea, Gold Coasters get to know a lot of different seaweed, so we’ll be chatting about all things oceanic, including the recent changes in our very special marine biosphere, and exploring some of the frondy delights we have been witnessing in the water and on our beaches lately.

There will be show and tell with seaweed samples! Bring your observations – or just your eyes and ears!

We will be joined by the wondrous clean beaches activist and general ‘shellraiser’ Jen ‘Gingerlily’ Schultz and other special friends with skills in seaweed, shell and coral identification. Seaweed snacks, local knowledge, banter and some very important socially-distanced sunset-attending await.

Meet at the lifeguard tower at 4:00pm near the surf club for a relaxed wander up to The Point.

This is an inclusive low-sensory event suitable for neurodiverse folks. With thanks to the Australia Council for the Arts for supporting inclusion in this and other forthcoming Gold Coast Seaweed Society events. Burleigh Point is wheelchair accessible and please get in touch if you have any other access needs or questions.

All welcome – see you at sundown!!
